Alexander Hamilton’s Hometown

An unorthodox musical with a diverse cast features the life of Alexander Hamilton. “Hamilton” is creating waves on Broadway and beyond, while also smashing box office records.

Home is where your story begins, and this American Founding Father’s story begins here in Nevis. In 1757, Alexander Hamilton was born on our unspoiled island, living here until he was nine years old.

Built in 1680 and later restored, Nevis visitors can see the two-story Georgian-style building that was once the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton. Now known as the “Hamilton House,” this beautiful waterfront stone building encompasses a museum of the island’s history and the meeting room for the Nevis House of Assembly.

Hamilton has a life made for the stage. Born out of wedlock here in the Caribbean and abandoned by his father, Hamilton eventually made his way to the United States, where he served as General Washington’s aide-de-camp during the Revolutionary War, drafted the U.S. Constitution and served as the first secretary of the Treasury. From his lovely hometown to his revolutionary accomplishments and even unruly scandals, this play showcases it all.

Next time you see this famous man on the 10-dollar bill, or are intrigued by the visionary founding father in his namesake musical, we hope Hamilton will make you also think of Nevis.
