We were delighted to welcome Nick Butter to Nisbet Plantation and Nevis. In 2018, he will begin his “Running the World 196 Expedition,” where he will run a marathon in all 196 countries around the world.
During his trip, he enjoyed leisurely cycling and running around the island. In addition, he participated in the annual Nevis Triathlon. While Nick primarily visited Nevis to run, he experienced much more.
“Although the main reason I was there was to compete and review the race, I can honestly say I’ve never been made to feel more welcome by a nation.”
As this globetrotter visits every country, he wants to leave a positive mark. He certainly did that on Nevis.
He visited several schools, including Violet O Jeffers-Nicholls Primary School (VOJN), the nearby school Nisbet has “adopted.” Nick ran drills with the students, alongside Dulani Phillip. Dulani works at Nisbet part-time, and also serves as a physical education instructor at the school.
In total, Nick spoke to about 500 kids and found their attitudes inspiring. He shares that these interactions were a great introduction to learning about international education.
“My message to adults is to listen to kids – they have such a magical way of viewing the world.”
Nevis offers three annual running events: Nevis to St Kitts Cross-Channel Swim, the Nevis Marathon and the Nevis Triathlon. Nick plans to make many return trips to our island, and we look forward to welcoming him back.
“When you find a place that is so peaceful, so unique and then realise that they actually hold these kinds of events, it’s like a perfect match – people, views and weather that will keep you coming back for more.”
Read more about Nick’s trip on his personal blog, and find out what Nisbet Plantation experience he calls a “masterpiece.”
